After a day spent on the phone and computer trying to locate Antonio and his crew, and only getting frustrated, Griffin gladly hit the shower. According to the schedule that Dorian had managed to scrounge from the hospital network, he had another hour at least before Maeve got off work. Longer if she stayed for a bit of overtime.

He planned to be waiting beside her car in the parking lot before she finished her shift. She might have refused dinner with him, but that didn’t mean he’d leave her alone and unprotected. He planned to make sure she got home safely. With Antonio’s gang on the loose, he couldn’t be too cautious.

With that in mind, he didn’t want to be late. He finished dressing and eyed the shop’s security monitors as he tucked in his shirt. The door was closing on a customer, a woman with long dark hair that reminded him of Maeve’s. Fuck, he had it bad.

Thoughts of her were replaced by annoyance as he noted Lonnie was on his phone.

Again.

Lazy fucker. He’d been told to stay off the thing when he worked. Should have never accepted him when the loner had shown up looking for a Pack a few months ago. Lonnie had begged, spinning some sob story about his last Pack tossing him out because of trouble with a girl. At the time, Griffin had felt sorry for the young man. He’d had a hard life. He’d just wanted a chance. But in the time since he’d accepted him into the Pack, Griffin had come to realize he really didn’t like Lonnie. Not only was he the laziest fucker but a few of his boys claimed there was something off about the guy. Might be time to cut Lonnie loose.

Griffin headed downstairs to give Lonnie yet another warning. He entered the shop and stopped dead as he smelled his honey. The distinctive scent of her lifted his head, and he swiveled it to check every corner for her.

“Where is she?” he asked Lonnie, since the store held no one else.

“Who?” Lonnie didn’t even rise from his slouch. The disrespect almost cost the guy his front teeth.

“Where is Maeve? Why didn’t you call me and tell me she was here?” She’d obviously come to find him, because he highly doubted she’d come in to buy another vape when hers remained almost brand new.

“Don’t know what you’re talking about.”

He narrowed his gaze on Lonnie. “Why are you lying to me? I can smell her. She was here. And recently.” He thought of the woman he’d seen leaving only moments ago. He’d just missed her.

The younger man finally looked nervous. “Oh, you mean the chick that just came in? I sent her away.”

“You did what?” The words emerged as a low growl.

“Just doing you a favor. Figured she was some floozy—”

His fist hit Lonnie in the jaw before the fucker finished speaking. The young man stumbled back into the wall, hard.

“What did you do that for?” Lonnie whined.

“Watch your fucking mouth when you talk about Maeve.
